Land Acknowlegment
LA River Expeditions operates along the Los Angeles River on the traditional and unceded lands of the Tongva people, also known as the Gabrieliño Nation, who have been stewards of this watershed, its waters, and its surrounding lands since time immemorial.
We also acknowledge the Chumash, Tataviam, and Serrano peoples, whose ancestral territories overlap with the greater Los Angeles River basin.
We honor the enduring presence, resilience, and cultural connection of these communities to this land and waterway — a connection that long predates the concrete channelization of the river and continues today.
As we work to restore access, ecological health, and community connection to the LA River, we commit to doing so with respect for Indigenous history, knowledge, and ongoing stewardship of this place.
We recognize that acknowledgment alone is not enough. We welcome relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations working to heal this land and river.
